We are currently seeking one dancer to join the company for our new project BLINDSPOT, which will be premiered in New York in the fall of 2019 (October 24 & 25). The role requires prior experience in contemporary dance and partnering work, strong musicality, dance improvisation skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

As part of the audition process we are holding our first Summer Workshop and Performance event from June 24 to June 28, 2019. During the workshop, participants will be introduced to DanceAction's movement philosophy and repertory, and will be considered to become part of the company. Rehearsals for this project will resume in late August 2019. They will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays, twice or three times a week for a period of 2 to 3 hours each, between 5 and 9pm. Rehearsals and Performances will be compensated.

Based on George Orwell’s classic novel 1984, BLINDSPOT is a live dance and multimedia piece. In this work, the slogan of the party, “War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength,” is translated into a movement narrative that includes live music and media projections to create an immersive multimedia experience for the audience.

This Dance Workshop and Performance opportunity for dancers, musicians, actors, performance artists, or movers of any kind is a comprehensive dance experience that will allow participants to access a unique combination of dance training techniques, playful improvisation approaches, and dance making tools and strategies that will ignite their creativity and broaden their physical ability, as well as their versatility as movement artists. The Workshop will take place at the Howard Hodgkin Studio of the Mark Morris Dance Center, from June 24 to June 28, from 1 to 4 pm each day. The event will end with a performance at the Mark Morris Dance Center, Robert W. Cole Studio, on June 28, 2019 at 5:30 pm, featuring dance works developed by the participants, and excerpts of DanceAction’s repertory.

In order to be considered for the audition, applicants should register for a minimum of 1 session of the workshop or for the full workshop, and submit a resume, head shot, video sample (if any), and a letter of interest.
