Mary Madsen

Mary has been an avid member of the NYC Dance community for 15 years. Throughout her career she has had the pleasure of working with many dance companies and choreographers. Most notably with Third Rail Projects as a performer and rehearsal director on their Bessie award winning show, Then She Fell (since 2013). Mary is also a long time collaborator and performer with Jody Oberfelder Projects (since 2013). From time to time, Mary creates solo performance works and dance films. In past years Mary has had the pleasure of working with: Becky Radway, Megan Bascom, the Resonance Collective, Elia Mrak (Seattle), Regina Nejman, Kelly Anderson (Chicago), David Appel Dance, Rebollar Dance Theater (D.C.), Simone Ferro (Milwaukee), and others.

In addition to performing, Mary has invested in a deep practice and study of improvisation. Mary and Carmen connected through improvisation, and developed the Movement Playdates: an improvisational practice focusing on the relationship between movers while exploring the use of space, time, and dynamics.

"I find value, growth and perspective by enabling artists to tap into the social practice of improvisation as a group, and am excited to share the space with Carmen to share some of our philosophies in this workshop."
